"When The Outcome Is Unknown"
Listen to this message on your audio player.
“I heard, but I did not understand. Then I said, “O my lord, what shall be the outcome of these things?” (Daniel 12:8). “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). Yesterday 14 year old Jamie and his sister 10 year old Lizzie came over to help us with some work around our home. They like to work and had been looking for an opportunity to help us in various projects. Lizzie cleaned the white railing around our deck and I assisted Jamie in building a lattice skirting for our deck. His skill set and work ethic are amazing for his age.
Mid morning Brooksyne received a call from their mother reporting that Caleb, their 2 year old cousin who lives in upstate New York, was missing. This prompted a large search with more than 100 people, as
well as a helicopter and bloodhound. There was an initial concern regarding foul play, however when they couldn't find the golden retriever they were relieved thinking that foul play was unlikely. Of course the children were distressed and we were all praying for a positive outcome. Five hours later they found Caleb and the dog 1½ miles away in the woods safe and sound and actually not at all distressed! What a great time of rejoicing for the family and all assisting in the rescue. And what an amazing story that a child at 2 years could walk 1 1/2 miles away from home into the woods!
But we consider that stretch of time when family, friends and searchers did not know the outcome. In this case it was several agonizing hours but at times in life it's much, much longer as some of you are thinking right now as you read this.
I am blessed by the expression in Daniel in our first daily text. Regarding a specific matter in his own life he candidly admits, “I heard, but I did not understand. Then I said, “O my lord, what shall be the outcome of these things?” Isn’t that our question so often? The main encouragement in our message is this: Let us be faithful to God regardless of the cost even when the specific outcome is not known. In the big picture we do know this: “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). Be encouraged today, (Hebrews 3:13)

Daily prayer: Father, far too often we want
quick fixes or to know the exact means in which You are going to work a matter out in our lives. But even as the Gospel is in ways a mystery unfolding, so is Your leading in our lives. If we had it all figured out and knew exactly how everything was going to fall into place, we’d be walking by sight rather than trusting by faith. We know that “faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we cannot see.” Reassure our hearts as we keep the words of Solomon before
us, “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” Amen.Today's Suggested Music and Supplemental Resources

(Click on photo to enlarge) Lizzie cleaning the railing around our deck. The white vinyl material is very prone to getting a greenish mildew coating.
Jamie built new skirting for a portion of our deck and applied a fresh coat of paint.
Jamie also reset some landscaping stones around our garden fountain. His burned leg is healing very nicely so that once again he is active in work and play.
Late afternoon Lizzie was out on the trail with Brooksyne and of course had to check out the deer stand!
