"The Blessing Of Being Accepted"

Message summary: What a glorious truth it is to be accepted by Christ and become part of His family!

"Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God" (Romans 15:7).

We visit several large distribution centers with "pickers" darting about huge warehouses restocking or pulling products. A process in receiving is inspecting the product before it gets placed in the warehouse. Not surprisingly some of the products received do not pass the inspection test and is rejected.

I visited a company where one of the pickers had a large "Rejected" sticker plastered on the back of her green jumpsuit. (The rejected sticker was intended for use on boxes of materials that had been rejected.) Apparently a co-worker had placed it on her jumpsuit as a joke and I don't think she even realized it was there.

But it got me thinking. How many people are rejected or how many people feel rejected by others? How many have experienced rejection by significant people in their lives? Though they don't wear a visual sticker declaring "REJECTED" it's visible in their expressions, in their communication or lack of it, often displaying a downward cast. We've all probably at some point in life faced rejection but some people have experienced rejection repeatedly, including some of you reading this today. Read this message carefully and receive encouragement from a powerful Scripture phrase in our daily text, "just as Christ accepted you".

What were we like before Christ accepted us? Romans 5 gives us a "thumbnail sketch" in Paul's description of unbelievers as "helpless... ungodly... sinners... enemies". In the spiritual realm we were all rejected and fit for the salvage bin for "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). This is the part of the Gospel that informs us of our utter need.

But what a glorious truth it is to be accepted by Christ and become part of His family! Whether or not we have known the acceptance and support of a loving family, faithful friends or cooperative coworkers, when we come to God in faith and repentance we are accepted. He has said, "All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away" (John 6:37). We are all welcome into God's family…and this by His marvelous grace! Consider that wonderful phrase, "Whosoever will may come".

We close with some lyrics from a song written in the 80's and sung by a group called DeGarmo & Key that reminds us of God's acceptance.

Just remember there's a Savior
And you are worth enough He gave His life for you

Daily prayer: Father, You have shown us through the example of Jesus that we are to accept others in the same way that Christ accepted us. Show us ways that we can effectively reach out to others, especially those who feel rejected by family or society as a whole. Help us to show them genuine love and to initiate a friendship in the same way that You reached out to many different people groups and befriended them. As we do this in obedience to your command and as we are led by Christ's example Scripture indicates that we bring praise to You which is our heart's desire. Amen.

We passed this one room Amish schoolhouse and observed a father, son and daughter unloading a trimmer and mower from the garden cart they pulled behind their buggy. We surmised it must be their turn to mow and trim the school grounds.

We have an abundance of roadside stands with a wide variety of locally grown produce available. We thought this customized portable stand was a clever idea. Just pull the wagon when you want to move it!
