We shared this photo of a huge mural in one of our company offices several weeks ago but today we want to consider the glorious truth that
"The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered"
(Revelation 5:5).

"And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, 'Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?'" (Revelation 5:2). "Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals" (Revelation 5:5).
For several years we have enjoyed a song titled "Is He Worthy?". We first heard it when Brooksyne was learning it in the choir and she excitedly told me "Just wait till you hear this new song we are working on!"
It's a very moving song that uses an interesting format with a soloist asking a series of questions followed by a response from the choir and congregation. (A link to a video is included below. Listening to the song will enhance the message we share today.)
It begins:
Do you feel the world is broken? (We do)
Do you feel the shadows deepen? (We do) But do you know that all the dark won't stop the light from getting through? (We do) Do you wish that you could see it all made new? (We do) Many of us sense an increasing brokenness in the world and may feel the shadows deepen. We experience the broken world in different ways. As we gather with other believers we may have numerous burdens we are bearing. Some are personal, others common to all. At times the shadows really do seem to deepen. In our ministry we consider many we know who have heavy burdens today and have lifted them in prayer this
morning.
But the song uses the same format to call us to remembrance:
Is the glory of the Lord to be the light within our midst? (It is)
Is it good that we remind ourselves of this? (It is) One good reason we attend church and gather with other believers is to be taught and reminded of God's timeless truths. The focus later in life, for those who have walked with the Lord over the years, is more often being reminded of that which we've already learned rather than hearing it for the first time. In 2 Peter 1:12, Peter wrote, "Therefore I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you." But of course even children and young people need reminded. Reminding is a perpetual necessary form of ministry for all ages, presented by sermon, testimony or song. The song concludes with an allusion to Revelation 5:2 to a heavenly dilemma, "Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?"
The initial assessment was "And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it" (v.3). which prompted despair, "and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it" (v.4). Sometimes we are at our own point of despair concerning the burdens we bear; we just can't see a way out, let alone the bigger picture. We regularly need to be reminded of the truth in the verse that follows, "Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that He can open the scroll and its seven seals" (v.5). The song concludes, Is anyone worthy?
Is anyone whole? Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll? The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave He is David's root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave Is He worthy? Is He worthy? Of all blessing and honor and glory Is He worthy of this? HE IS! Today we want to remind you of this victorious truth; the Lion of Judah who conquered the grave is David's root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave. He is truly worthy! Be encouraged today, (Hebrews 3:13)

 Daily prayer: Father, it is
good to be reminded of many truths that Your word has taught us and experience has shown us over the years, including the words of the apostle John who gives us a glimpse of worship in heaven, when it was revealed to him that the Lion of the tribe of Judah, of the Root of David, was found worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals. When no one in heaven or earth could open the scroll or look into it Jesus was declared worthy to do so; He is worthy of all praise, glory, honor and thanksgiving!
Not only is there worship in heaven at such glorious news, but we worship here below to know that we serve a victorious risen Savior who has conquered sin, death and the grave securing an eternal home for us in heaven. Amen.Today's Suggested Music and Supplemental Resources
"Is He Worthy?" Video Andrew Peterson Brooksyne's Note: I was driving Ester to the dentist on Monday morning when "Is He Worthy" began to play on WDAC, our local Christian radio station. It gets lots of air play and I've sung it several times with the choir so I was a little surprised that tears suddenly filled my eyes as Andrew Peterson sung the very first question, "Do you feel the world is broken"? I joined in with the singers' response, "We do" and with every other response to the loaded questions that describe the day in which we live. But when Peterson got to the question, "Who is worthy to open the book and break its seals?" (Rev. 5:2) The flood gates opened and tears streamed down my face. I sang out, "HE IS!" Jesus is worthy, praise God! I thought I was worshiping privately since Ester was listening to her headphones but then she asked, "Why are you sad?" Of course, my response was, "My tears are not tears of sadness but tears of joy that Jesus is worthy!" He is worthy to open the scrolls and find the counsels of God." Yesterday we attended a funeral service for Milly Provard, who along with her husband Jack, are longtime ministry friends. I believe I first met Jack nearly 40 years ago when we served on a committee together and later he served a church in a neighboring community. We reconnected about 20 years ago and worked together as chaplains for several years. Jack and Milly had been married for nearly 67 years and were active in one way or another till
just several years ago. Their grandson-in-law conducted the service and made an interesting point regarding our view of death in seeing it similar to graduation.
