A daily, Bible-based perspective of hope, encouragement and exhortation.
Thursday, February 20, 2020 "Remembered Forever"
Message summary: The highest form of remembrance that we can express is that of our devotion to God and our service for Him. Listen to this message on your audio player."Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes" (Psalm 112:6-8). Today we speak to a group of seniors at the "Golden Nuggets" luncheon, an outreach to the elderly right here in Mount Joy. Oren
and Naomi, dear friends and dedicated servants of Christ, developed this ministry many years ago with a burden to reach the lonely and often forgotten older population, both within and outside the local church. In fact my Mom thoroughly enjoyed going to Golden Nuggets before she went to be with the Lord in 2005.We will share with them an assurance of God's care during their senior years as they deal with the inevitable challenges of aging. I will also point out that we all have an "expiration date", which is in God's hands. The church is out in the country with a cemetery beside it. As you drive into the parking lot the church is on your left and the cemetery on your right. What a visible reminder of the expiration date we all have! The Apostle James says, "What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes" (James 4:14). Nearly 2000 years have passed since Jesus said, "I will build my church." Our life will only comprise a small fraction of that period of time (about 4% of it). That's pretty humbling isn't it? And if you go all the way back to creation it's an even smaller percentage. The vast majority of human beings who lived in previous generations are long forgotten on this side. In fact only a tiny, tiny fraction are remembered. But there are various reasons a few people are remembered long after their death such as:
Psalm 112 has yet another perspective of this fleeting life. It extols the blessings of the godly one who fears the Lord. The righteous "will be remembered forever". Read that again slowly. Do you believe it? As God is remembered by His marvelous works, so the godly person is held in remembrance for his acts of mercy.
I want to remember today that's what matters most. I want to follow Jesus Christ and seek to live as a righteous man according to His plan. Be encouraged today,
Stephen & Brooksyne Weber Daily prayer:
Father, You bless the righteous; those of us who fear and serve You are a joyful people. Our fear is not that which You cast out but that which Your love brings in. You lay up blessings for us and our descendants who walk in Your righteous path. Riches of eternal nature are bestowed upon them, as well as the earthly provisions that are profitable for them. We can have blessed assurance knowing that in the
darkest hours of affliction and trial, the light of Your hope and goodness will spring up within us, turning our mourning into dancing and our testing into a testimony that glorifies You. We want to be remembered as a victorious people who walked in Your paths of righteousness all our days. Amen.Today's Suggested Music and Supplemental Resources
