Message
summary:
Today, and
every day, let
us not forget
the Lord and
primarily His
Gospel.
Listen to our message on your audio player.
“When
the LORD your
God brings you
into the land
He swore to
your fathers,
to Abraham,
Isaac and
Jacob, to give
you a land
with large,
flourishing
cities you did
not build,
houses filled
with all kinds
of good things
you did not
provide, wells
you did not
dig, and
vineyards and
olive groves
you did not
plant–then
when you eat
and are
satisfied, be
careful that
you do not
forget the
LORD, who
brought you
out of Egypt,
out of the
land of
slavery”
(Deuteronomy
6:10-12). "Do
this in
remembrance of
Me" (Luke
22:19).
"Remember
Jesus Christ,
raised from
the dead,
descended from
David. This is
my gospel" (2
Timothy 2:8Brooksyne
and I are at
that stage in
life when we
tend to be a
bit more
forgetful.
Sometimes it’s
humorous,
other times a
bit scary and
and still at
times it is
downright
aggravating.
For the most
part our
forgetfulness
is is in
regard to
misplacing
smaller daily
items like
where we put
the car keys,
our coffee
cups, etc. Or
we walk
downstairs
with the
intention of
getting an
item, but we
can't remember
what that item
was.....until
we walk back
upstairs and
get back to
the reason we
went
downstairs in
the first
place. Our
pantry is
downstairs
from the
kitchen, so
Brooksyne goes
through this
frustrating
time waster
often when
preparing
food.
Our
first
daily
Scripture is a
caution that
we are not to
forget that
which is of
utmost
importance, a
solemn warning
from Moses to
the people of
God camped on
the east side
of the Jordan.
We do well to
heed this
warning today
some 3500
years later: "Be
careful that
you do not
forget the
LORD".
The
people of
Israel were
poised to
enter the
Promised Land
and Moses
gathered them
in one place.
That must have
been quite a
sight! He knew
he was not the
one who was
going to lead
them into the
Promised Land
and that his
departure was
nearing. He
gave the
people he
faithfully led
through the
wilderness one
last rousing
sermon. (Many
Bible students
consider the
entire book of
Deuteronomy a
single sermon.
For that
reason in
Bible College
we were
expected to
read the
entire book on
our own in one
setting which
Brooksyne and
I did
individually.)
In
our final text
we have a
brief word
from Paul to
Timothy
concerning a
call to
remember
another
essential, "Remember
Jesus Christ,
raised from
the dead,
descended from
David. This is
my gospel".
Today,
and every day,
let’s not
forget the
Lord and
primarily His
Gospel. Be encouraged today, Hebrews 3:13
Stephen and Brooksyne Weber
A.W.
Pink,
wrote about
this long ago.
He went to be
with the Lord
nearly 75
years ago but
we so often
find his
writings very
helpful. “If
adversity
carries with
it a measure
of menace to
the spiritual
life, the
perils of
prosperity are
far greater.
If through our
unwatchfulness
the former
leads to
discontent and
murmuring, the
latter will,
unless we be
doubly on our
guard, issue
in
self-complacency
and
self-sufficiency.
It is when we
are brought
low, by losses
and trials,
that we are
the most cast
upon God.
However, when
success crowns
our efforts
and our barns
are well
filled, we are
the most apt
to walk
independently
of Him. Little
wonder, then,
that the Lord
entrusts few
of His people
with this
world’s goods.
The same
applies to
spiritual
blessings: if
earnest
[prayers] of a
coming rest
are granted,
they will be
regarded as
realities
instead of
foreshadowings,
and then we
[might] rest
before our
time---instead
of continuing
to press
forward.”
