Message summary: This message is for those might shrug and say "maybe all is well for you, but it doesn't feel like all is well for me".

"For
I am convinced
that neither
death, nor
life, nor
angels, nor
principalities,
nor things
present, nor
things to
come, nor
powers, nor
height, nor
depth, nor any
other created
thing will be
able to
separate us
from the love
of God that is
in Christ
Jesus our
Lord" (Romans
8:38,39). Many years ago in northern Pennsylvania our church put on a play based on the book, "All is Well" by Frank Peretti. The recurring theme during the entire play was "All Is Well", though the circumstances of the story would indicate otherwise. Michael W. Smith wrote the lyrics of a song to complement the theme of the book: All is well, all is well Lift up your voice and sing Born is now Emmanuel Born is our Lord and Savior Sing Alleluia Sing Alleluia All is well
The nature of our ministry is walking beside people when all is not well. During the Christmas season it just doesn't seem right that people must suffer pain or experience loss. * Early last week while visiting a company we prayed with an employee whose husband was lying unconscious in the hospital. Several days later we received word that he died. * Yesterday in church I visited with Tim, a friend and inquired about an MRI he had undergone days earlier and he informed me that his cancer was spreading. * Brooksyne made a call yesterday concerning a neighbor who has had a long battle with cancer. Her husband informed her that she is now in her final hours.
For
these and many
like them it
sure doesn't
feel like all
is well.
The
message of
Christmas on
the deepest
level, a level
experienced
only by faith,
is that "All
is well" is
due to
Christ's birth
and the
fulfillment of
His mission.
That’s very
hard to hear
(or read) when
it would seem
that all is
not well, but
on the
authority of
God’s Word
"All is well".
The angel’s
message to the
shepherds and
really to all
of us was and
is, "Do
not be afraid;
for behold, I
bring you good
news of great
joy which will
be for all the
people"
(Luke 2:10).
"God
takes the
humiliating
path of
reconciliation
and thereby
sets the world
free. God
wants to be
guilty of our
guilt and
takes upon
Himself the
punishment and
suffering that
this guilt
brought to us.
God stands in
for
godlessness,
love stands in
for hate, the
Holy One for
the sinner.
Now there is
no longer any
godlessness,
any hate, any
sin that God
has not taken
upon Himself,
suffered, and
atoned for.
Now there is
no more
reality and no
more world
that is not
reconciled
with God and
in peace. That
is what God
did in His
beloved Son
Jesus Christ -
the
unfathomable
mystery of the
love of God
for the
world."
When
we fully
embrace that
God
substituted
His beloved
Son to take on
our sin guilt,
once and for
all. This
brings vital
perspective to
the daily ins
and outs, ups
and downs that
we tend to fix
our focus on
in the
ever-changing
here and now.
We need to
focus our
hearts on the
promises of
God and that
which cannot
change our
eternal
destiny.
Indeed all is
ultimately
well.
This
is the highest
level of
understanding
and acceptance
of God's will,
that "All is
well" and can
be embraced by
all who place
their trust in
Christ even in
the midst of
circumstances
that would
otherwise
dictate, "All
is not well".
As some of you
are reading
our message
you’re likely
feeling that
this message
is for you.

Brooksyne's
note: The
choir
arrangement in
our first
selection
above is very
nice, but I
asked Stephen
to also post
my favorite
version and
singer for
this
beautiful,
heartrending
song. Heather
Payne, an
original
member of
Point of
Grace, sings
this song in a
way that I've
come to love.
She has a solo
career and has
not sung with
Point of Grace
for many
years, but
early on when
the group came
to our area at
Christmas I
would attend
their concert
just to hear
"All is Well"
sung by
Heather.
Inevitably the
tears streamed
down my face
during that
song as I
considered
that we can
find peace
through Christ
no matter the
circumstance
we face.
(Heather has a
booming voice
so you may
need to adjust
the volume as
she gives it
her all on
this song.) I dedicate this song to two of my dear choir friends: Bette, whose husband went to be with the Lord on Dec. 18th and Sue who has been battling cancer over the last couple of years. Our prayers are with them and we also pray for many of you we know via dailyencouragement. The battle is real, and may seem to be constant, but through it all we can still declare, "All is well" in our spirit because Jesus is there with us upholding us through it all!
