Lancaster Costco parking lot
Our Lancaster Costco parking lot provides a shelter for their Amish customers. With the majority of Amish having large families we always see a lot of Amish when we shop there! We have also driven our Amish neighbors over since taking a horse and buggy would not be practical for those who live near us.

"The Resting Place"

Message summary: A key to having rest for the soul is choosing to gaze upon your permanent destiny and only glance upon your present difficulties.

Listen to our message on your audio player.

"God will speak to this people, to whom He said, 'This is the resting place, let the weary rest” and 'This is the place of repose, but they would not listen" (Isaiah 28:11,12).

The nature of our ministry that Brooksyne and I have puts us in contact with a lot of people. One by one many share with us the burdens they bear. Listening to their stories and bearing their burdens can at times be wearying.  It may be those we see as chaplains or those we hear from through this writing ministry or our church associations.

Frankly one of the hardest encounters are with those who have made a mess of their lives due to sinful and poor choices but they still refuse to listen to helpful counsel. So often the way out means making some hard choices but they prefer the familiar way of doing things.

This is still true after placing our faith in Christ. As we apply God's principles to our lives we can grow weary. Perhaps the spiritual progress is not coming along as fast as we had hoped or it requires some hard changes. Paul instructed the Galatians and through Scripture all of us, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up" (Galatians 6:9).

Our daily text is a real gem buried deeply in a hard to read book. God has a resting place for the soul! Perhaps this verse in part was an inspiration for the great hymn, "My Faith Has Found A Resting Place".

Today is your soul weary? We pray God will strengthen you with His Word. Jesus said, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:29).

Choose to gaze upon your permanent destiny and only glance upon your present difficulties. This will enable you to praise God with a sincere heart. Thank Him for the discipline He is bringing into your life to conform you to His likeness and to prepare You for the joys of heaven where sorrow, loss, pain, disappointment and weariness no longer exist. At this point you may be weary but God has a resting place for your soul as you continue to place your faith in Him.

Be encouraged today!  Hebrews 3:13

Praying man Daily prayer: Father, we are encouraged and emboldened when we consider that in everything we experience today You go before us preparing the way. As we fix our gaze on the eternal peace that awaits the faithful believer, we can endure the temporal conflict here and now. We wait upon You in prayer and faith so that we are renewed in our strength emotionally, physically and spiritually. We are grateful that You give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak. We thank You most especially for Your spiritual renewal that not only meets our needs now but prepares us for all eternity. Amen.

When the valley is deep
When the mountain is steep
When the body is weary
When we stumble and fall

When the choices are hard
When we’re battered and scarred
When we’ve spent our resources
When we’ve given our all

In Jesus’ name, we press on
In Jesus’ name, we press on
Dear Lord, with the prize
Clear before our eyes
We find the strength to press on
