A beautiful bouquet of flowers has a way of cheering one's spirit doesn't it! God has given us flowers of every size and color, each with its own unique style; whether it's spiked and stately, multi-blossomed or just one large bloom it certainly captures one's attention and brightens their day!

"Divine Cardiologist"

Message summary: Daily is surely not too frequent to consult with the divine Cardiologist! Anytime day or night, wherever we are we can have our heart tested.

Listen to our message on your audio player.

“I know, my God, that You test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness" (1 Chronicles 29:17). "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all" (Acts 1:24).

Longtime readers and friends are aware that Ester was born in Guatemala with extensive heart problems and came to the states at three months of age for treatment and for a place she could call home. She has endured six major open-heart surgeries along with many catheterizations (we think 16), installation of three different pacemakers and many other procedures related to her heart malady, such as that which she went through all of last week.

She’s presently doing fairly well, after her ordeal last week, though we were hopeful, after her cath, that her oxygen saturation numbers would improve more than they have. On Tuesday she had a visit from a critical care paramedic from Hershey Medical Center who explained to her that she has now been diagnosed with heart failure, or as many know it as Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). That was a "big pill" for Ester to swallow and for us also as we process just what that means. It's the storm on our horizon we see coming our way we referred to yesterday in our message about worry.

Since her arrival in the U.S. her heart has been examined regularly through electrocardiogram, echocardiogram and other diagnostic tests.  Apart from a miraculous healing, for the remainder of her life, she will be carefully monitored. I expect that there are a number of you, our readers, who can identify with Ester’s health matters or have family members who do.

In our first daily text David prays out to God about a heart examination we all need to regularly submit to. He cries out to the Divine Cardiologist, “I know, my God, that you test the heart".

The Bible has much to say about the heart. It’s unlikely that in David’s appeal he was thinking of the pumping organ as we know it. The Hebrew word "leb" conveyed the innermost or center part. The word used in the Greek New Testament for heart, "kardia", also has the sense of innermost part. Of course that’s where the "cardio" in cardiologist comes from. Altogether the word "heart" is used 830 times in the Bible!

As I ponder these words of Scripture I am struck by the spiritual health tip in David’s words in our first daily text. He initiates the appeal: test, try, and examine me. Likewise we do well to approach God in this way. We willingly subject ourselves to a thorough examination of our innermost part by the divine Cardiologist. Anytime day or night, wherever we are we can have our heart tested.

In Psalm 139:23,24 David cries out in a line familiar to many believers, "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting".

The second text tells us that God knows the hearts of all. "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all" (Acts 1:24). No wonder David said, "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me" (Psalm 139:6).

Kardiamobile™ is the first and only FDA cleared six lead personal EKG (electrocardiogram). It claims it can detect Atrial Fibrillation or abnormal heart rhythm anytime, anywhere. Since Atrial Fibrillation (A-fib, A-flutter) is an affliction that Ester has as a result of a congenital heart defect repair (BT Shunt) she regularly benefits from this device by checking herself when her heartbeat is feeling irregular. Her pacemaker can also be monitored remotely.

When it comes to the work of the Divine Cardiologist we suggest not merely an annual exam but regular access such as those with physical problems can now have with Kardiamobile™. Daily is surely not too frequent to consult with the divine Cardiologist! Actually you can just leave the divine Kardiamobile running constantly! (The battery will never run out).

Search me, O God, and know my heart today,
Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts, I pray;
See if there be some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from every sin, and set me free.

B e encouraged today! Hebrews 3:13

Praying man Daily prayer: Father, You are the Divine Cardiologist who knows the very inmost part of my spiritual heart. People see only the outward person and I am capable of presenting myself differently than the person I really am inside, though I cannot hide from You that which comes from my inward parts. You liken the heart to that which is the most central part of our emotions and character. I invite You to not only search my heart, but also  to remove the offensive contaminants such as jealousy, bitterness, disobedience, rage, lust or any other impurity that destroys my soul, for no one but You can heal all my soul’s diseases. I praise You, Lord, for cleansing me from sin. Fulfill Your word and make me pure within. Fill me with fire, where once I burned with shame; grant my desire to magnify Your name. Amen.

"David Prays in the Assembly" 1 Chronicles 29:10-19 (full prayer our first daily text is from).

"Create In Me a Clean Heart"  Watch on YouTube  A Song of Repentance

"Create In Me a Clean Heart"  Watch on YouTube  Keith Green

"Nothing But The Blood"  Watch on YouTube  Charity Gayle  This is a new song that also incorporates several older hymns and songs including a song from our youth, "The Blood Will Never Lose it's Power". That's been 50 years now and it's absolutely true! "Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot" (1 Peter 1:18,19)  Hallelujah!!!

I heard this song early this morning on the way to pick up the Amish teachers for their last day of school this year. They were sure extra chatty speaking in PA Dutch on the way to school today!

Mark with pies
Yesterday our friend Mark came up to see Ester (and us). His signature dish (in our view) is pineapple cream pie which we have enjoyed for many years. Mark is a retired hospice chaplain and demonstrates compassion in many ways. We first met him in New England prior to moving to this area in 2001 so he is our longest term local friend.

Finally today:

Yesterday my neighbor Levi called needing a ride to the Post Office to pick up some chicks. These were hatched on Wednesday and flown across the country from New Mexico. We had lots of pleasant chirping coming from my van's cargo hold as we drove home!
