2025 "Like
Newborn
Babies" Message summary: W e should always desire the milk of God's Word, even the simple, familiar truths. Spiritual hunger is a vital sign of spiritual health. Listen to our message on your audio player.
"Like
newborn
babies, crave
pure spiritual
milk, so that
by it you may
grow up in
your
salvation, now
that you have
tasted that
the Lord is
good" (1
Peter 2:2,3). The baby robins in the nest above are located about 3' off our deck in our miniature Hibiscus tree. Ester captured this photo of these hungry robins from inside our dining room window since they are located right at our eye level in the hibiscus tree. They're growing rapidly as a result of their ravenous appetite (unfortunately the third egg never hatched). In our photo these baby birds are craving a tasty, protein-filled worm which is not the food I crave first thing in the morning (or any time for that matter)!
We
observe their
parents
sharing the
feeding duties
in keeping
their little
ones fed while
always being
on the
look-out for
predators such
as our little
dogs and even
us. They are
unaware that
we are also
watching out
for them and
have chosen
not to charge
them rent for
their love
nest or the
straw and
debris they
stole from our
yard to build
it. We even
cleaned up the
mess they left
behind
building it!
Craving
can have a
negative
connotation
such as how it
is used in 1
John 2:16, "The
cravings of
sinful man,
the lust of
his eyes and
the boasting
of what he has
and does".
Retailers work
very hard to
get people
craving.
But
Peter uses an
illustration
of healthy
craving in the
daily text.
Being hungry
and craving
food is a sign
of physical
health. A
failure to
have an
appetite is a
sign of ill
health. Peter
applies this
to the
spiritual
appetite using
hungry babies
as an example.
"Like
newborn
babies".

On
Saturday we
stopped by the
Country View
Greenhouse and
BBQ south of
Elizabethtown.
This is a
large
Amish-owned
greenhouse
that has a
delicious
chicken BBQ
each Saturday
with long
lines of
people waiting
to be served.
I (Brooksyne)
was looking
for a
perennial
hibiscus for a
friend and of
course went
from one plant
to the other
as the variety
drew me in. On
the other hand
the smoke from
the chicken
wafted in
Stephen's
direction and
drew him
toward the
BBQ. He bought
two half
chickens,
baked
potatoes,
fresh rolls
and applesauce
and we took
them to eat
along the
river trail
before we rode
our bikes.
Great protein
for pedaling
14 miles on
the bike
trail!

Brooksyne
standing on
the White
Cliffs of
Conoy
overlooking
the
Susquehanna
River. The
cliffs are the
result of a
limestone
quarry that
once existed
up the hill
from the
cliffs. Once
pulled from
the ground,
the limestone
and dolomite
were crushed
and burned to
create a
variety of
products for
local farms
and
businesses.
Over the
years, the
excess
limestone and
dolomite were
piled up near
the river,
creating large
white
mountains up
to 30 feet
tall. It’s
entirely
possible that
the White
Cliffs of
Conoy are the
first great
industrial
waste tourist
attraction in
the world.

The
trail runs
under the
Shock's Mill
railroad
bridge which
opened January
1, 1905. We
enjoy it when
the timing of
our ride
coincides with
the long train
crossing this
bridge, but it
didn't happen
on Saturday.

We
saw this
interesting
conveyance on
the trail
known as a
trishaw. It's
an actual
organization
called Cycling
Without Age
and here's a video.
They cost
between $7,400
– $11,000 plus
shipping. The
man on the
bike told us
this was
shipped to him
from
Copenhagen.
They reside in
Lancaster
City. This
trail is their
favorite where
they ride
about three
times a week.
