As we prepared
to post this
morning for
some reason
our recording
device acted
up so we will
need to try
again to
prepare later
this afternoon
since we have
activities
throughout the
day. So if you
get this
during the day
Monday 8/4 the
podcast won't
work!)
"For
none of us
lives to
himself, and
none of us
dies to
himself" (Romans
14:7). "It
is not good
for man to be
alone" (Genesis
2:18).
I
met Ken (L)
about 15 years
ago at a
conference in
Washington
when he
attended with
his pastor,
Alan (R) that
year. I in
turn met Alan
through
John Keefer,
our former
pastor.
Several
years later we
served as
chaplains at
Ken and
Audrey's
company in
Northern
Lebanon, until
they retired
and sold the
company about
(In the
background of
this photo are
the windows
that look down
upon the
milking
carousel).
Today's message is prompted by this photo as I considered the many valued friendships we enjoy due to connections with others. That is, I came to know one person through my association with another person and likely this is due to someone else I knew. Relationships
are at the
heart of God's
design. From
the very
beginning, God
created us for
connection—with
Him and with
one another.
In Genesis,
God said, "It
is not good
for man to be
alone"
(Genesis
2:18), This
refers to
marriage,
life's most
fundamental
human
relationship,
but the
principle is
foundational
to all
relationships,
it's not good
to be alone!
Being in
community is
not just
beneficial—it's
essential.

This
photo is a
lowered
clothesline
pole made for
young children
to hang out
clothes. Most
Amish
clotheslines
are created
from a
pulley-type
system where
clothes are
hung on a line
that goes out
maybe 30–40
feet into the
yard. This
children's
clothesline is
much lower
than the fence
line.
Saturday
morning we
stopped by an
Amish farm
where they are
building a new
school. I will
be on a
rotating
driving team
taking the
teachers to
and from
school again
this year and
that will
include
driving two
new teachers
to this new
school.
Actually the
school is not
yet built so
initially they
will meet in
the upper
floor of a
spacious barn,
a beautiful
setting where
the Amish also
meet for
church. We
arrived
shortly after
the farmer
freshly
varnished the
floor.
However once
they start
building the
school it will
only take a
week or two!
After all the
Amish can
build a barn
in a day, as
we have seen
time and time
again.

Saturday
afternoon we
went to a 70th
birthday
gathering for
our friend,
Ken, standing
next to
Audrey. Their
son, Travis
and his young
family who
live in Ohio,
were also
there to
celebrate.

Ken
visiting with
Bob Rohrer,
owner of the
farm. They
were
reconnecting
after being
friends in
their teen
years. The
birthday
dinner was
held on the
Rohrer dairy
farm where I
also
celebrated my
70th birthday
last year.
It's a great
place since
the function
room overlooks
the milking
carousel as
seen in our
lead photo. I
like to think
watching the
cows spurs on
good milk
production!

We
now have two
healthily
hungry baby
robins in the
nest in the
Hibiscus tree
on our deck.
We hope the
3rd egg
hatches soon!
Finally
today:

Yesterday
after
our church
service
we visited our
friends, Jim
and Dorothy
Schmidt. On
the way out we
also saw
Pastor Eric
Crichton, 104
years old, who
at one time
pastored the
church we now
attend. He
still is sharp
and said, "May
God bless your
ministry".
This prompts a
memory of a
blessing from
over 25 years
ago we shared
in this story:
"The
Power Of The
Blessing"
