"I have
told you these
things so that
in Me you may
have peace.
You will have
suffering in
this world. Be
courageous! I
have conquered
the world"
(John 16:33).
"But thanks be
to God, who
gives us the
victory
through our
Lord Jesus
Christ" (1
Corinthians
15:57).
Yesterday
our choir sang
a newer anthem
type song
titled,
"Christus
Victor
(Amen)".
"Christus
Victor" is
Latin for
"Christ the
Victor". We'll
post a link
below if you
care to
listen.
O
Most High,
King of the
nations What a tremendous truth that Christ is Victor! The two texts selected today support this claim. Although the specific word varies slightly depending on translation each translates a Greek word νῖκος (nikos) which refers to the concept of victory or triumph.
John
16:33 has long
been among our
favorite
verses and we
both memorized
it in Bible
College.
Typically when
considering
this verse my
focus has been
on the first
part about
peace but
Christ's
self-declarative
phrase is
essential, "I
have conquered
the world".
Other versions
use "overcome"
but they all
translate the
word
derived from
νῖκος
νῖκος.
This was
before His
ultimate
victory on the
cross. Being
God He was and
is always
victorious.
David
Guzik writes,
"This was an
amazing
statement from
a man about to
be arrested,
forsaken,
rejected,
mocked,
tortured and
executed.
Knowing that
Jesus has
overcome the
world brings
us good cheer
(courageous).
It is the
foundation for
our peace in
Him. We see
that Jesus is
in control, we
see that
although He
leaves He does
not abandon,
we see that He
loves, and we
see that the
victory is
His. We can be
of good cheer
indeed."
Because
Christ is
Victor, we can
have the
assurance that
Paul ends his
marvelous
chapter on the
resurrection
theme with
this
declaration of
praise, "But
thanks be to
God, who gives
us the victory
through our
Lord Jesus
Christ" (1
Corinthians
15:57). His
victory is our
victory.
The present
tense
(continually
giving) so it
is not "God
gave us the
victory" but
"God Who keeps
on giving us
the
victory!"
This is
good news for
it emphasizes
the certainty
of the victory.
Today
we encourage
each reader to
focus on our
victorious
Christ. In
doing so "the
things of
earth will
grow strangely
dim, in the
light of His
glory and
grace!"
Be encouraged today! Hebrews 3:13

yesterday. Brooksyne's
note: I
thoroughly
enjoyed
learning this
song over the
past few
weeks. It
takes my focus
from all
things
perishable to
that which is
eternal. What
a glorious
sight to
behold when we
set our sight
on "the Lamb
upon the
throne":
Now to the Lamb upon the throne Be blessing honor glory power For the battle You have won Hallelujah With every tribe and every tongue We join the anthem of the angels In the triumph of the Son Hallelujah Amen

On
Saturday I had
the pleasure
of eating
lunch at Olive
Garden with
five
friends whom
I've met in
various church
settings over
the years, all
who love the
Lord.
Following our
meal we
considered
that though
each of them
lost their
husband due to
illness or
disease, the
tremendous and
lasting
blessing is
that each man
served the
Lord
wholeheartedly,
so there is a
reunion
awaiting these
women after
this life.
After
lunch we
attended the
wonderful
production of
the classic
"Jane Eyre"
written by
Charlotte
Bronte. The
Christian
message in
this classic
novel could
not be missed
and the
announcer even
opened in
prayer.
This morning I
heard on the
radio for the
first time "Great
is His
Faithfulness"
sung by
Charity Gayle

.
I thought of
my five
friends in the
photo and so
many of you
who have
written to us
over the years
following the
death of a
spouse and
some in recent
weeks or
months. I
encourage you
to listen to
the song as it
has a
tremendous
message for
those who've
lived in shame
due to the
shackles of
sin, to those
who have
suffered the
betrayal of a
friend, and
also to those
who have
suffered the
loss of a
loved one.
VERSE
4
If you’ve wrestled with the ache of loss And why this has been your road to walk He bore your pain, He wore your cross BRIDGE He is Present Helper Keeper Great is His Faithfulness Perfect Sovereign Fortress Great is His Faithfulness Abba Father Comfort Great is His Faithfulness Redeemer Restorer Sustainer Great is His Faithfulness
CHORUS
Oh
lift your head
Morning is coming
There’s
more to the
story
Don’t forget in grief and in glory
Still
great is His
faithfulness
We
have all
probably known
someone who
lived 100
years ago and
in some cases
we know
someone still
living who is
over 100.
Yesterday
after our
church service
we visited Jim
and Dorothy
Schmidt,
longtime
friends who
reside in a
nursing home.
We also saw
Eric Crichton,
who served as
the pastor of
the church we
attend (years
before we
started
attending). He
is will soon
be 104 years
old!

One
of the many
joys of
ministry is
seeing those
you have
discipled stay
faithful and
fruitful. Joey

for the song
we feature
today I saw he
