"Focusing On What Is"

Message summary: "When are you going to stop worrying about what if and start focusing on what is"?

Listen to our message on your audio player.

Last night we joined others in a worship service in a barn near Strasburg PA. Matt and Kim Goss, a local worship team, led those who gathered and we had a powerful teaching by an Indian engineer named Suhas Kamble from Berks County, PA.

We were very blessed but today we want to share a thought shared by Tyler, the man who owns the venue, as he opened the service.  The Lord had specifically spoken to his heart during his prayer time with this thought, "When are you going to stop worrying about what if and start focusing on what is"?

How many of you worry about "what if"?

" What ifs" abound in life both personally and in regard to the state of our country and world.

" What if the diagnosis reveals I have cancer?"

" What if this or that candidate wins our next election?"

"What if Iran develops a nuclear weapon?"

And on and on and on there are "what if" questionsand they indeed cause worry. Are there "what if" questions are on your heart today? If so, it's certainly a mindset we both deal with.

So today let us focus on what is using the Book of Romans to develop a very partial list of what is:

1) The gospel is the power of God. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile" (Romans 1:16).

2) The gift of God is eternal life.  "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23).

3) There is now no condemnation. "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1).

4) This is your true and proper worship. "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship" (Romans 12:1).

5) God is able. "Now to Him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ"   ( Romans 16:25).

The Bible is full of "what is" truths. May God help us all today to make this our focus!

Be encouraged today, Hebrews 3:13

Praying man Daily prayer: Father, if our mind is consumed with all the uncertainties we leave little room for that which is certain - that You loved us so much You sent Your only Son to pay for our sins; that You will never leave us nor forsake us; that Jesus is preparing a place for us in heaven; that we can cast all our care on You because You care for us. The things that matter most are already taken care of which greatly lessens our anxiety over the what ifs that may come our way. And even when they do we want to commit them to You as the young maiden Mary did when contemplating the angel's announcement that she would give birth to the Son of God. So many what ifs surely consumed her thoughts but she must have released them to you as she responded to the angel, "May it be to me as you have said." Help us also to have such an attitude because we know nothing is impossible with You, our miracle working God, who is always working on our behalf. Amen.

Red Caboose wagon
The wagon in front of Casey Jones Restaurant, one of our favorite local eateries , where we ate last night in a real railroad dining car.

Barn at Paradise Station
Following our meal we walked back behind the restaurant to the Barn at Paradise Station, where a worship night was being held in the barn. Before the service we walked all 75 steps up the silo for panoramic views of Lancaster County countryside which we will share tomorrow.

This is the lower level of the barn where we entered before going upstairs for the worship service. Turns out a light meal was available here with cheeses, meats, pastries and fruits (free will offering). The evening was cool so it was nice to drink a cup of coffee before the service.
