Last night we joined others in a worship service in a barn near Strasburg PA. Matt and Kim Goss, a local worship team, led those who gathered and we had a powerful teaching by an Indian engineer named Suhas Kamble from Berks County, PA.
We
were very
blessed but
today we want
to share a
thought shared
by Tyler, the
man who owns
the venue, as
he opened the
service.
The Lord had
specifically
spoken to his
heart during
his prayer
time with this
thought, "When
are you going
to stop
worrying about
what if
and start
focusing on what
is"?
How
many of you
worry about
"what
if"? " What ifs" abound in life both personally and in regard to the state of our country and world.
"
What
if the
diagnosis
reveals I have
cancer?"
"
What
if this or
that candidate
wins our next
election?" "What if Iran develops a nuclear weapon?"
And
on and on and
on there are "what
if"
questionsand
they indeed
cause worry.
Are there "what
if"
questions are
on your heart
today? If so,
it's certainly
a mindset we
both deal
with.
So
today
let us focus
on what
is
using the Book
of Romans to
develop a very
partial list
of what is: 1) The gospel is the power of God. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile" (Romans 1:16). 2) The gift of God is eternal life. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23). 3) There is now no condemnation. "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1). 4) This is your true and proper worship. "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship" (Romans 12:1). 5) God is able. "Now to Him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ" ( Romans 16:25). The Bible is full of "what is" truths. May God help us all today to make this our focus!
